Ordinary glass breaks into long, sharp pieces. Security film is a clear, tough layer fitted to the inside of the glass you already have. When the glass breaks, the film holds the pieces together. How Security Film Works
The film is thin layers of polyester bonded with a strong adhesive. The glass can still crack on impact, but the pieces stay stuck to the film, so the risk of injuries drops a long way. A thief can’t knock the glass out and step through. They have to keep hitting it, which takes time and makes noise.

What Is Security Window Film?
Security window film is a thick, clear film fitted to the inside face of your glass. You’ll also hear it called security glass film or anti-shatter film. Some people call it security window tinting, but it isn’t normal window tint. Tint is for heat and glare. Safety and security films are for holding glass together when it breaks.
Thinner safety film protects people from broken glass. Thicker security film adds strength, so the glass takes longer to get through. Both block up to 99% of UV rays.
Jake has been tinting for over 30 years. A lot of the glass in older Queensland homes is plain annealed glass, which breaks into big, sharp pieces. Toughened glass is safer, but it still shatters and can drop out of the frame.

Types of Safety and Security Film
The best window film for you depends on your glass and what you want to protect against. We aren’t locked in to one supplier. Jake fits all the premium brands of security window films, including 3M, Solar Gard and SunTek, so we pick the film that suits your glass, not the one we’re stuck with.
Safety Film
Clear film for basic shatter protection, usually 4 to 8 mil thick. It’s the usual choice for child safety and for glass that needs to meet AS1288.
Security Film
Film from 6 to 12 mil thick, with more impact resistance. It suits shopfronts, glass doors and ground-floor windows where burglary is the worry.
Tinted and Coloured Security Film
Security film also comes in tinted and coloured versions. It still holds the glass together, and it cuts heat and glare and adds some daytime privacy.
Attachment Systems

Will security film stop a break-in?
No film makes glass unbreakable. It holds the glass together, so a thief has to keep hitting it. That takes time and makes noise, and most break-ins rely on being quick. Pair it with good locks, an alarm or security screens.
What glass can safety film go on?
Most flat glass, including windows, sliding doors, shopfronts and partitions. Double-glazed units and some tinted glass need extra care, so we check the glass type at the free measure before we recommend a film.
How thick is security film?
Safety film is usually 4 to 8 mil, and security film runs from 6 to 12 mil. A mil is a thousandth of an inch, so 12 mil is about 0.3 mm. That’s a lot thicker than normal tint film.
Will the film make my windows look different?
Clear film is very hard to see once it’s on. If you’d like less heat and glare, or more privacy during the day, you can choose a tinted or coloured version.
Does security film block heat and UV?
Clear film blocks up to 99% of UV rays, which slows fading. On its own it does little for heat or energy efficiency. If heat is a problem too, a tinted security film does both jobs in one layer.
Can safety film help in childcare or school settings?
Yes. Children run into glass, lean on it and throw things at it. We fit safety film that meets AS1288, which holds broken glass together and helps prevent injuries from sharp shards.
Is film as good as laminated glass?
They’re different products. Laminated glass has a plastic layer built in. Film is a retrofit, fitted to the glass panels you already have, so it costs far less than new glass and you keep your frames. We’ll tell you honestly which suits your job.
Can window film crack the glass?
It can if the wrong film goes on the wrong glass, because film changes how much heat the glass takes in. The glass type, the size of the pane, its shading and any chips all matter. That’s why we check every pane first.
Can you remove old tint before fitting new film?
Yes. We strip old, peeling film and clean the glass before we fit the new security window film.
How much does security film cost?
